Following the keynote speech today by DoJ Antitrust Chief Makan Delrahim, the MIC Coalition released the following statement:

The MIC Coalition’s position on the pro-competitive consent decrees governing ASCAP and BMI is clear: these decrees are essential to maintaining a functional music marketplace. Their termination or erosion, without the establishment of a meaningful alternative framework, would be nothing short of a nightmare scenario for the millions of businesses that rely on them to efficiently play and pay for music performed publicly. Not only are our concerns shared by a growing bipartisan chorus on Capitol Hill, but also by the millions of small businesses, restaurants, bars, wineries, breweries, retailers, local radio and television broadcasters, and digital music services that have called on Antitrust Chief Makan Delrahim to preserve the consent decrees.
