Robert Gomez: “Dear Department of Justice, Don’t Kill Live Music”

Robert Gomez, owner of Beat Kitchen and Subterranean venues located in Chicago, IL, authored an op-ed in InsideSources, urging the Department of Justice (DOJ) to preserve the consent decrees that govern ASCAP and BMI, as the Agency hosts a public workshop on competition in licensing music public performance rights, this week.

In the op-ed, Gomez cites the COVID-19 pandemic’s devastating effect on American businesses, while noting that without the proper safeguards in place, venues like his will be subjected to price-gouging when it comes to paying music licenses, that would ultimately cripple their ability to keep their doors open.

You can read the full op-ed here.
